Good morning! Here are 10 things you need to know this morning:

1. Nigerian Golden Eaglets, last night defeated Mali in the final of the FIFA under 17 World Cup in Chile to retain the title it won 2 years ago. The match which ended 2:0 in favour of the Eaglets equally saw Nwakali and Victor winning the best player of the tournament and second best player respectively. Victor however won the golden boot award as the highest goal scorer with 10 goals.

2. Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike, Saturday appointed twelve new Special Advisers. This follows the approval of the Rivers state House of Assembly. Those appointed include, Cyril Dum-Wite, Nkem Nweribe, Chris Itamunoala, Daisy West, Elemchukwu Ogbowu, Okiri Aribitonye, Shedrack Akolokwu and Professor Israel Owate. Others include Bishop W. T. Iwor, Anugbum Onuoha, Professor Atuboyebia Obianeme as well as Isaac Okemiri.


3. Nigeria’s U-20 women team, Sunday qualified for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Papua New Guinea after defeating South Africa 1-0 at Tembisa Stadium in South Africa.

4. A former US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Walter Carrington, has said that the country will not object to President Muhammadu Buhari’s efforts to negotiate with Boko Haram. He, however, disclosed that the country would not support payment of ransom in order to rescue the abducted Chibok girls.

5. The South-East Caucus of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has praised the First Lady, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, for visiting the fiery Enugu Roman Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, describing the visit as a master stroke. The party also commended the President’s wife for flagging-off her free medical pet project -Health Screening Initiative, in Enugu State.

6. Report says the National Judicial Council has sent 30 names to President Muhammadu Buhari for confirmation as judges of the Federal High Court.


7. Students of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka are currently battling the school management over an alleged compulsory laptop fee imposed on new students by the management of the school. The students said the fee was high and that it would deny many of the freshmen the opportunity to study in the school as they may not be able to pay the additional seventy thousand naira laptop fee.

8. Security agents, on Sunday, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, arrested a suspected, Boko Haram member who was declared wanted by the Nigerian Army. According to the Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, the man was identified as Chindo Bello.

9. Two security guards of Olofon Grammar School in Idanre local government of Ondo State were during the weekend killed by suspected Armed robbers while they were on duty. Report claims that the robbers engaged the deceased in gun battle as they tried to gain entrance into the school at night.They also went away with two new acquired computer sets belonging to the school.

10. No fewer than seven people have been killed and 16 others injured in a fresh violence that broke out yesterday in Wukari local government area of Taraba State between Muslims and Christians over the annulment of the election of the State Governor, Darius Ishaku.
