In 2011ish I got a new position that required me to fly back and forth between Houston and Lagos on a somewhat regular basis. My company insisted that I fly business class and as long as they paid for it (which they did) I had no problem with the proposal.

So that’s how I found myself in this heavenly place called “Business Class.” Long story short business class was nice … if you can afford it knock yourself out!

I met a lot of celebrities, politicians, popular business men and lots and lots of Oil workers aka “expats” in Business class. And I had lots of interesting conversations with them … but my most interesting/confusing conversation came from a special guy. One special 9ja guy …

I had just boarded the plane and was getting ready to settle down in my seat, when I caught a glimpse of my riding partner. He had that look of amazement, as in “wow this place is so nice” I remember that look, because it was the same look I had when I entered Business Class for the first time in my life…

He was just looking at me and the plane and then me again. And eventually proceeded to whisper, but in that kind of interrogative way … he said

“o boy, how did you afford to buy your ticket?”

I was like … “Hold hold up, what type of insult is that, you mean to say that I cannot afford to buy my own ticket!”

But I am passive aggressive … so I kept all my words inside my head and instead decided to reluctantly tell him the truth.

I told him that my company actually paid for the ticket … instantly the look of suspicion jumped out of his eyes. He proceeded to whisper again, like some sort of EFCC investigator…

“Look at all these people in business class (pointing to the Nigerians as he spoke), these are the people stealing Nigeria’s money.”

My face was so confused …

But he ignored my face and kept on…

“They are so corrupt, bleeding Nigeria and flying business class when people are suffering at home.”

At that moment, I looked up to God and said a quick prayer that went something like “lord Jesus please please please give me Wisdom, Patience and Understanding to deal with this bullshit I am hearing!”

I think God heard my prayers. Because I nodded my head to say “uh huh,” before slipping on my earphones and blocking out the bullshit.

Said individual really believed that most Nigerians flying business class are some how automatically corrupt! And that is the same thing for most Nigerians on Land …

Build a house in Dubai … corrupt
Drive a fancy car … it must be corruption.
Build a house in Banana Island … Sugar daddy or corruption
Have an overseas account … corrupt!

Just accuse someone of corruption, offer no proof aside from the fact that he lives or dwells in a fancy place, and the anti-corruption mob will attack!

But here’s some breaking news …

If you earn your money honestly you are free to spend it any which way you want, its your prerogative and nobody’s business. If you want to throw your dollars in a swimming pool and swim in it drown knock yourself out!

And to all the people out there hating or judging … remember, not everybody that flies Business Class is corrupt.

1. Heterosexual – a person attracted to people of the other sex

Heterosexuals are males attracted to females and vice versa.
2. Homosexual – a person attracted to people of the same sex

We have gay people, as in males who are attracted to males, and lesbians – females who are attracted to females.
3. Bisexual – a person attracted to people from both his/her own sex and the opposite sex

Mind you, bisexuals aren’t hetero or homosexuals, they do stand on their own.

But do you know about these:
4. Asexual – a person who doesn’t experience sexual attraction

5. Aromantic – a person who doesn’t feel any romantic attraction to people

6. Demisexual – a person who is only sexually attracted to a person s/he shares a deep emotional bond with

7. Sapiosexual – A person sexually attracted to intelligence

8. Greysexual – a person who is both asexual and sexual

9. Demiromantic – a person who feels romantic attraction only in the presence of an emotional bond

10. Polysexual – a person who can be sexually attracted to some varieties of gender, but not all

11. Pansexual – a person who is sexually and romantically attracted to people from all the genders

12. Gender Fluid – a person who can identify as being both male and female

13. Skoliosexual – a person who is sexually attracted to gender fluid people

14. Androsexual – a person who is sexually attracted to men

A person can be heterosexual, or homosexual to be an androsexual. It is based on the gender they are attracted to, rather than their own.
15. Gynesexual – a person who is sexually attracted to women

Similarly as androsexual, both lesbians and straight people can be gynesexual.
16. Lithoromantic – a person who is capable of feeling romantic attraction but doesn’t want it reciprocated

I think I fall under  five of the above categories. I think.

Say goodbye to the voices in your head that tells you that you are incapable of doing something or being someone. They lie a lot, and you should know that by now.

2.
Say goodbye to the need for validation. We all need validation from time to time, but you also don’t have to constantly pursue it. As long as you see your utmost potential or how far you’ve come, you don’t need to seek after anyone to affirm that for you.

3.
Say goodbye to all the moments you were not so proud of; forget them and remember that you are a human being who is still learning how to live.

4.
Say goodbye to the promises you didn’t keep, know that timing is everything, and good things take time.

5.
Say goodbye to the self-doubt and the negativity last year brought. It might not be the happy ending you wanted, but it could possibly be the happy beginning you didn’t see coming.

6.
Say goodbye to the times you cried and the times you were in so much pain, and give yourself a pat on the back for getting through yet another obstacle. Sooner or later, you will get to the finish line.

7.
Say goodbye to the people who don’t want anything to do with you; they are not meant to be in your life for one reason or another. Focus on the ones who do and the ones who care.

8.
Say goodbye to the memory you keep replaying in your head, whether good or bad, the one that is keeping you up at night wondering where it went and whether or not it will happen again. You rewinded them and paused them way too many times; now it is time to find something else to watch.

9.
Say goodbye to the addiction you had for your phone, or your laptop, or social media, or anything you were voraciously obsessed with. Spend more time with nature, and teach yourself that too much of anything will eventually suffocate you.

10.
Say goodbye to the expectations you had for yourself that by now you should have done this or done that. Life can be messy, and the last thing you need is getting attached to its chaos.

11.
Say goodbye to all the words people told you about yourself, the ones that made you love yourself a little less. Think of how little these people know about you and your story or why you are the way you are. Think of how some people like to belittle others to feel good about themselves, and while you are it, say goodbye to these people.

12.
Say goodbye to the times you were immature, or out of line, or had no common sense. Remember that these are the moments that remind you that you are not perfect and that you are a work in progress. Take it as a humbling experience and move on.

13.
Say goodbye to the times you missed someone who didn’t miss you back. Eventually you will not miss them anymore, and you will learn that other people miss you more than you know.

14.
Say goodbye to the trip you didn’t take, or the city you never went to, or the wedding you missed, or the opportunities that passed you by. Not everything will go as planned and you don’t have to carry the guilt with you everywhere you go. Let that be a reminder that no matter how hard we try, we will not always be in control.

15.
Say goodbye to the all the flaws you keep pointing out in the mirror and the times you really didn’t like who you were looking at. Buy a new mirror if you have to, but more importantly, start liking who you see and change the way you look at yourself.

16.
Finally, say goodbye to the thought that this year will be the same and that nothing will ever change, and start saying hello to all the wonderful possibilities, dreams, and opportunities that are waiting to manifest themselves to you.

Indians, like some other countries are totally obsessed with marriage and some of the time, for all the wrong reasons. A group of people came up with these tongue-in-cheek photos to trivialize some of what they term 'ridiculous' reasons why they get married. Check them out! Sound familiar? Let's see how long it takes Nigerians to come up with their own. Continue...
