She Matters: Social media is having a field day about her looks, and even though critics may have a point, she didn’t ask to be in the spotlight.

The meme circulating on social media comparing Michelle Obama, the wife of President Barack Obama, with Lacena “Candy” Carson, the wife of Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson

INSTAGRAM

There’s a particularly mean meme about presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson and his wife, Lacena, aka Candy, circulating around social media. In the meme, President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama are striking at the China state dinner Friday. President Obama is dressed in a well-tailored tuxedo, and the first lady has long, side-swept hair and an off-the-shoulder, custom-made Vera Wang gown.

The contrasting picture of the Carsons was taken in May, on the day Carson officially announced his candidacy for president in Detroit. He is dressed in an unremarkable but still presentable blue suit. It’s Candy Carson’s appearance that makes the meme funny to some (but not me). She is wearing a hairstyle and patriotic ensemble that is unflattering, ill-fitting and dated. The meme caption is a play on a popular DirecTV commercial that clowns its cable competitors for being subpar.

This is what my P.C. mind thinks: I’m no fan of presidential candidate Ben Carson. I don’t like his politics. He receives his fair share of ire from potential voters, but he asked to be dissected in the media, traditional and social, when he announced his bid for the presidency. Candy Carson did not. There are plenty of exceptionally valid reasons to rage about Ben Carson without adding his wife to the mix.

I hark back to the time in 2008 when Obama, then just a presidential candidate, appeared onGood Morning America to defend his wife from undue attacks for her alleged lack of patriotism.

“I’ve been in public life for 20 years,” he explained. “I expect them to pore through everything that I’ve said, every utterance, every statement. And to paint it in the most undesirable light possible. That’s what they do.”

He added: “But I do want to say this ... if they think that they’re going to try to make Michelle an issue in this campaign, they should be careful. Because I find that unacceptable ... I think it is just low class.”

I loved how Obama stood up for his wife. He was the candidate running for office, not his wife. And Michelle Obama didn’t deserve to be ripped apart because of his political ambitions. Her being attacked wasn’t right and was “low class.” Period.

But then there’s also the un-P.C. part of mind, the side that gets me in the most trouble as a writer. That untamed part of my brain? It’s mature enough not to laugh at Candy Carson’s expense, but it’s still asking why she came out of the house looking like that when her man is announcing his presidential bid. She didn’t just join him onstage to say, “Congrats, boo!” and go on her way. Candy Carson, an accomplished violinist, performed that day, too, playing the national anthem as her husband’s intro music. Come on!

Well-meaning sympathizers of Candy Carson have excused her appearance as a result of her religious beliefs. She is a devout Seventh-day Adventist, a religion that discourages women from wearing makeup and jewelry and emphasizes a modest appearance. OK. But religion and modesty are not synonymous with ill-fitting and unflattering and out-of-date. Also, there’s a Seventh-day Adventist church on my block, and on Saturday morning, the women I see look well put together for service. Candy Carson’s look can’t be blamed on religion.

Let me tell you a story: I recall, when I was a kid, maybe 10, I attended a family event with my mother. A male family member, who had always been praised for his looks and appearance, showed up looking dapper, as always. His wife? Not so much. Pretty lady, but she looked as if she hadn’t put in much effort for the occasion of seeing all of her husband’s family, when she should have.

My mother leaned over to me in my seat and offered me a dose of grown-lady wisdom: “When your man is looking like something, you make sure you look like it, too. Don’t show up looking like the help.” I never forgot that.

Is that shallow? Maybe.

But let’s stop pretending that appearance never matters, when there are times that it absolutely does. It’s because appearance matters that when she was plucked out of the Alaskan wilderness and thrust into a presidential campaign, vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s handlers spent $150,000 at Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus to dress her for the campaign trail. It’s because appearance matters that over the last eight years, first lady Michelle Obama has transformed from a rather stiff and conservative look popular among politico wives to that of a glamorous and designer-wearing fashion icon. It’s why black women still have serious debates about whether to wear their hair natural or straightened for work.

Are there sexist and, in this case, racist underpinnings that make appearance matter more in certain circumstances? Absolutely. But until those “isms” are dismantled, women absolutely need to look as if they at least tried, especially when they’re up for a role they really want.

I won’t drag Candy Carson. I’m sure she is a lovely woman, and she has endured her husband’s politics for 40-plus years. But I will say that I can’t help noticing that as a presidential candidate, Ben Carson always shows up looking like the position he wants to have. I want the Mrs. to look the same.

She doesn’t have to slay in off-the-shoulder, hip-hugging ball gowns, but it would be helpful if the team that works with his presentation, if he has one, would add a little oomph for her. And if there is no team, Candy Carson would be well-served to enlist the help of a glam squad. Not because social media has no chill, but because appearances matter, and when it comes to running for president, her husband needs all the help he can get.

The Portuguese has never lost seven games in a single league season as a manager but has tasted defeat six times already in 2015-16 to stand on the brink of another bad milestone.

It has been a tough start to the season for Jose Mourninho and Chelsea, compounded by successive defeats to West Ham and Liverpool in the Premier League.

The Blues face Stoke City on Saturday, having recently been knocked out of the League Cup by the Potters, and Mourinho will not be present on the bench, after being subject to disciplinary action from the Football Association.

And another defeat for the ailing Stamford Bridge club could bring about another unwanted record for the Portuguese manager.

A man who spent his younger years as a lanky chap has revealed his transformation into a muscular giant.
Once skinny and 6ft 8in, Martyn Ford was just like any other young man with no interest in muscle mass. But now he's a tattooed and muscular beast - with a career in acting and weightlifting .
He said of the photo above

Sometimes I still see myself as I was, and anyone who has ever been in this position I would imagine do so the same! On the left I was around 12 stone, which at 6'8 is not a great weight! Been this skinny was the worst time of my life, if you've ever been there, you know what I mean. So now , ten years on, I still feel I have a way to go, it's a long process and will I ever be happy? Who knows, when I say my biggest challenge is the man in the mirror, you see why! I couldn't care how good or bad the man next to me in the gym looks, I do this for me and no one else!

1. CAT CAMEL STRETCH

Stretching exercises are useful for muscle toning and also preventing arthritis. Kneel down on all fours. Start by rounding your back just like a camel so that your head will try to meet your pelvis. This is the camel position. Then lower and lift your head so that your lower back is arched. This is the cat position. Do these movements slowly and smoothly. About 4 or 5 times.

2. GO FOR A WALK OR RUN

Always have new goals to reach. Start with brisk walking and work up to running. At my age, I am still walking!

The health benefits are considerable. You can build stronger bones and you can help to maintain your weight. Also, you are helping your heart to stay healthy and keeping your blood pressure low.

3. JUMPING JACKS

They are great for cardiovascular health and also for toning muscles especially the calves and the deltoids.

Stand with feet together. Jump while spreading your arms and legs. Return to first position and keep going! You can start with doing these for 1 minute and then gradually build up to the number you are comfortable with.

4. ABDUCTOR SIDE LIFTS

These muscles are important because you use them everyday to run, get into the car or onto and off a bicycle. They are very important also for your core stability and prevent the pelvis from tilting. Do about 10–15 raises for each side.

Watch a video to help.

5. BALANCING TABLE POSE

This is a classic yoga pose. It benefits the spine, balance, memory and concentration. Start with the table pose (hands and knees). Breathe in before starting each movement. As you exhale, raise your left leg parallel to the floor as you raise the right arm, also parallel to the floor. Breathe in as you lower arm and leg. Repeat for the other side. 10 repetitions on each side is a good starting point.

6. LEG SQUATS

PROMO: DOWNLOAD FREE Scholarship Past Questions @NUS 3 Years Anniversary

Not just legs are involved but also hips and knees. Stand with your feet a bit further out from your hips. Arms are out in front of you. Then lower yourself as if you wanted to sit down until you reach a 90 degree angle. You can go down further if you want to. Then return to the starting position. Repeat 15 times for 2 sets for beginners.

7. PUSH UPS

You start lying down (face down) but with your body held up at arm’s length. Your hands should be in line with your shoulders. Breathe in as you lower your body. That is fairly easy. Now, as you exhale, you have to get back up to the starting position. An easier version to start with is to bend your legs at the knees so you do not have to lift your whole body.

8. LUNGES

Stand with feet shoulder width apart. Place your hand on your hips. Take one giant step forward with the right leg. Make sure the knee does not go too far forward, that is, past your toes. The left knee will go down to almost floor level. Alternate the legs as you go on.

Try to a set of between 8 and 12 reps for each leg. It is important to allow for a day of rest, so this exercise should be done on alternate days, especially if you are using weights.

9. BICEP CURLS

You can do this sitting down so if you spend a lot of time on the phone, this is a great exercise to do. Choose suitable dumbbells or another household object that you can easily hold. Sit down with the dumbbell in your hand. You need to sit forward a bit so that your triceps can lean on your thigh to give you support. Then bring the weighted arm up to shoulder length and then down again. Exhale as you lift the weight and inhale as you lower it. Try to do one or two sets of about ten repetitions for each arm and then switch arms. It is great for toning arms.

10. BICYCLE CRUNCHES

There are numerous crunch exercises for targeting the abs. The bicycle crunch is a variation where you work more muscle groups.

Aim for 15 to 20 reps to start off with.

This was written by Barrister Chukwudi Iwuchukwu,

On November 18, 1992, agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration and the United States Customs Service arrested Musa, Jack Spencer, for conspiring to import in excess of one kilogram of heroin. Jack Musa Gowon, who was 23 years old at that time was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the allegation of smuggling heroin from source countries.

Jack Musa Gowon protested vehemently through his legal team that he was innocent and was framed up and his protest were ignored by the Jury and was harshly sentenced to 324 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release.

Musa timely appealed, challenging the admission into evidence of the Hotel Guide, the sufficiency of the evidence supporting his conviction, and the district court's upward adjustment of his base offense level on the basis that he was an organizer or leader in the conspiracy
When the appeal to quash his conviction failed, Musa took that decision in his stride believing set back like this is not end of his life
As an inmate of Taft Correctional Facility, Musa Jack Gowon was a role model and a legal adviser to all the inmates
He was well behaved and a source of inspiration to co- inmates who have given up on life
The prison warden loved and worshiped the ground he tread on

Permit me to mention that Musa enrolled in one of the universities around and successfully graduated with a degree in Law as a prison inmate

This commendable act of Leadership did not go unnoticed and he was rewarded severally by prison authorities
While all these were going on, Musa's family has never stopped fighting to get him out of prison and calls for his release began to grow louder
Happy to report that President Obama heard the calls for Musa's release and acted in that regard by granting him a parole

Musa walked out of Taft Correctional Facility Bakersfield California as a free man on November 2nd and he is currently at ICE Detention Center Bakersfield CA where he will be deported back to Nigeria any moment from now
Musa Jack Ngonaadi is grateful to his Dad, General Yakubu Gowon, his friends and his relatives from his maternal side who stood by him and supported him also all through the period of his unjust incarceration that he did not commit the crime he was wrongly accused of

A man has been sacked from the job he held for over four years after he clicked the ‘like’ button on a Facebook picture.
Troy Garrod, 27, was relaxing at home when he noticed a colleague had uploaded photo of a jumper with five wolves printed on the back.
Along with over 70 other people he ‘liked’ the bizarre picture and thought nothing more of it.
But just days later he received a text informing him that he had been sacked from his job at the UK’s leading book wholesaler.
Troy said:

“I didn’t know what the photo meant but everyone else who worked there was liking it so I just joined in. When I received the text saying I’d been sacked I couldn’t believe it.“I felt really hurt and angry and all my former colleagues think what happened is ridiculous.“Being sacked by text and email is not right after four-and-a-half years of hard work.“I put my heart and soul into that company and enjoyed going into work every day.“It just seems so unfair that clicking the ‘like’ button has caused me so much trouble.”Troy, who started working for Bertrams Books in 2011, spotted the Facebook picture on October 20.
It had been uploaded by a female colleague - who we are not naming - with the caption: “OMG I’m f**king crying.... I’m sure there’s a wolf fleece appreciation page pahahaha”.

The picture, taken inside one of the company’s warehouses, was ‘liked’ by scores of people. Three days after it was uploaded Troy received a text out of the blue informing him that he had been sacked.
He was told he “bullied” the jumper’s owner by ‘liking’ the “inappropriate” photograph.

Troy, who did not even know the identity of the fleece wearer, added:

“Over 70 people had liked the picture, so I just joined in thinking it was banter.
“Sadly I think people being sacked like this will become much more common.
“When people go on their Facebook timeline they don’t view it professionally, you think it’s just your social time.“I want to warn people to keep work and social divided on Facebook - be careful about befriending colleagues.”

According to the 91 year old Zimbabwe President,Robert Mugabe, Kenyans are the most arrogant thieves in the world because they steal with high degree impunity.

In his words: “Those people of East Africa shock me with their wizardry in stealing. Sometimes I tend to believe that stealing is in every Kenyan’s blood. These people go to their schools and read good courses but they qualify as the best thieves.

“You can even think that there is a subject in their universities called Bachelor of Stealing. Whenever they get an opportunity as employees, they never disappoint. They steal enough money to buy their freedom because even the judges who listen to their cases are financially powerless,” he said with vigor.

“I urge you my people to be on high alert in case you by bad luck, happen to visit that East African nation. They might infect you with that disease and we don’t want it here. Zimbabweans are honest people who love their country and don’t want such stealing tendencies ”

He shouted with courage as he advised his countrymen.

A Muslim man has been detained for choking a Jewish passenger on a flight to Ethiopia and urging others to lynch him after discovering the man was Israeli. The Sudanese attacker realised he was seated behind the Jewish passenger about 30 minutes before the Ethiopian Airlines flight landed in Addis Ababa, on Thursday last week.

He then allegedly lashed out at him - striking him with a metal food tray and screaming 'Allah Akbar' and 'slaughter the Jew'.

The victim, named as 54-year-old Arik, told Ynet: 'He hit me over the head with a metal tray and shouted "Allah akbar" and "I will slaughter the Jew. Only after a few seconds, just before I was about to lose consciousness, did I manage to call out and a flight attendant who saw what was happening summoned her colleagues.'

Aside from the staff on board the Chad to Ethiopia flight, the only other person who came to his aid was a Lebanese passenger.

He said once they overpowered the attacker, Arik was sheltered at the rear of the plane while his attacker was guarded.

However, he said his Sudanese Muslim attacker even tried to convince the rest of the passengers to help 'finish him off'.

According to Haaretz, an Ethiopian Airlines spokesperson said the attacker showed no signs of violence when boarding the flight in Chad.

'He didn't only attack the Israeli passenger, but other passengers and crew members as well.'

British divorcee Sheila has revealed how she was duped by an online con artist who targeted her through a reputable dating website. The divorcee in her late sixties told Channel 5 show Secrets Of The Scammers how she was contacted by a man claiming to be called Glen Almond and got caught up in a whirlwind romance.

She ended up giving away £4,000 before she discovered she was the victim of an elaborate scam based in Nigeria. Even to this day, Sheila has no idea who she was actually talking to or where her money went.

The couple then started planning their future together. Glen told Sheila his time in Afghanistan could be coming to an end in a matter of weeks and he would move to the UK to be with her. He said he planned to set up his own business there importing goods from the Far East.

"We were planning to walk off into the sunset hand-in-hand and live happily ever after."
Sheila said she didn't know anything about his business but 'I thought we were to be a husband and wife team and I would support him in any way I could.
"He told me our whole future was at stake if he didn't pay and we risked losing everything."
Desperate to help the man she loved, Sheila was able to sell some shares and delve into her savings to give £4,000 in total to Glen.

She also put her house on the market so they would have some money to buy a new place together. It was only thanks to sharing her excitement over the plan with a prospective buyer that she discovered she had been conned.

"As I was showing prospective buyers around my house I was so excited as Glen was due to be coming home tomorrow. I couldn't help telling them all about it and showed them Glen's picture on my laptop." she recalled.
The prospective buyer was a former soldier himself and was suspicious of Sheila's situation. After doing some research of his own, his fears were confirmed and he contacted Sheila and told her she had been duped.

"The moment I found out it was a fake profile and it wasn't for real I was emotionally devastated. My whole world fell apart. I contacted the police who found I was one of hundreds of victims of this professional, international scam and they traced it back to Nigeria. I have no idea to this day who I was corresponding with. Someone out there in the world was writing these emails and I have no idea who it was."

Alexis Conran, presenter of Secret Of The Scammers, was able to track down a reformed Nigerian con artist who was part of a team perating dating scams like that experienced by Sheila.
The remorseful scammer called Kingsley admitted that divorcees were deliberately targetted because they are often emotionally vulnerable and easy to manipulate.

"I mostly made money through romance scams, we would pretend to be interested in dating them and along the line we con them out of money using various methods." he said
"We are looking for someone who is divorced as there is always an emotional attachment, they feel some sort of emptiness." he added.

He said they would send the woman a picture of a handsome man they would 'fall for' and concoct a back story about their life. He said they often pretended to have a military background as this is attractive to women and gives them a plausible reason why they can't meet. "Most women say they want security and someone with a good job. One of the best jobs we believe is in the military and with a military man you can say you are travelling. It is a game of emotions."

He added that you have to dedicate time to each 'mark' and he would only be in contact with a maximum of five women at a time so his lies didn't get confused.
"The more time you spend on them the more attached they become and then the sooner you will get money, sometimes it is only between one and three months," he said.

"If you want to stay organised I would limit it to between one and five, when you are lying to them you don't want to forget anything.'
Kingsley admitted he is now sorry for what he has done and is no longer working as a scammer and regrets duping women out of their life savings.

He said: 'A lot of people have been permanently damaged and some will not recover, if I had the chance to undo everything I would."

Y'all remember Arsenal was 'bashed' 5-1 last night by Bayern Munich? Lol

The Chelsea manager's bizarre post-match interview following his side's loss to Liverpool only compounded the sense of crisis surrounding Stamford Bridge.

He was the master of mind games, the man whose every word was carefully calibrated. He could get under his rivals’ skin, motivate his men to ever greater deeds and intimidate officials into giving the decisions he wanted. He was Jose Mourinho.

He still is Jose Mourinho, but much else has changed. His every word is still scrutinized. There is still something undeniably intriguing about the Chelsea manager’s comments, his attitude, and the underlying reasons behind it. Yet the feeling that Mourinho has a master plan for every interview is gone.

Take his bizarre post-match discussion with BT Sport after Saturday’s defeat to Liverpool. He stated five times that he had “nothing to say." He in effect refused to answer 10 of the 11 questions he was asked. He was fulfilling his contractual obligations to talk to the broadcasters, but it looked a petulant protest. Quite how this was supposed to galvanize his players or reassure Chelsea’s fans is a mystery. This was not enigmatic brilliance. It was childish stupidity.

His subsequent news conference was notable for a lack of humility. Rather than acknowledging Liverpool’s superiority, Mourinho focused on blaming officials. Again. A typically one-eyed analysis of events centered on Mark Clattenburg’s decision not to dismiss Lucas Leiva. There was no such willingness to discuss the moment Diego Costa planted his studs into Martin Skrtel’s ribs. It could have been 10 against 10. It deservedly finished 3-1, and not to Mourinho’s team.

Strange interview has followed odd outburst in a depressing, increasingly tedious cycle. Cryptic comments and conspiracy theories have become the norm. If Mourinho is trying to elicit sympathy, he is not succeeding. Most neutrals are tired of his griping. The FA has started to clamp down on Chelsea, and Mourinho in particular.

None of that would matter if, as he used to, he got results. Like Sir Alex Ferguson before him, Mourinho has a track record of making outrageous comments while instilling a siege mentality. They may suggest the world is against them, but if it produces a united, defiant front, it can represent a successful strategy.

Yet Mourinho started the season criticizing two within the camp, when he blamed club doctor Eva Carneiro and physio Jon Fearn. It set the tone for a campaign when he has dropped Nemanja Matic, Eden Hazard and John Terry. If this was an approach designed to spur them back to top form, it had the opposite effect, particularly on the Serb and the Belgian. Matic did not make the starting 11 against Liverpool on Saturday. Hazard did not finish the game. He still hasn’t scored this season. Both look like footballers who feel they have been undermined. Talismen have been toppled by the man who was their great advocate.

And if Mourinho’s public utterances were supposed to motivate his team, they seem to be backfiring. Chelsea looks beleaguered, browbeaten and even bullied. Against Liverpool, as against Southampton, it was a side that could not respond when it went behind. His players have not been instilled with a never-say-die attitude. They have lost their indomitable spirit. They look a disjointed, dispirited bunch. The classic Mourinho teams were bands of brothers. This group appears to be made up of unhappy individuals. The best Mourinho sides consisted of players who had never reached such heights, individually or collectively, before. The modern-day Chelsea is the Premier League’s foremost group of underachievers.

Mourinho was the great alchemist. Now he is operating in reverse, turning pure gold back into base metal. Perhaps, deep down, he is as confused as everyone else as to why. It is one explanation why he is ever more erratic, just hoping something he says provokes the right sort of reaction.

He has pronounced himself happy with mediocre performances, declared himself outraged by reasonable refereeing decisions and ignored issues on the field to concentrate on those off it. At times his paranoia has been deeply unhealthy. At others, he seems to have a scattergun approach when an essential honesty might be the first step to addressing problems.

Mourinho long benefited from his reputation as a managerial mastermind. It was burnished by results, boosted by trophies. It helped generate believers, whether among supporters, neutrals or players. Now there are reasons to doubt there is a grand scheme. Not when he seems a man unravelling in front of a microphone, using every tool in his armory without rationalizing whether it is the right one at the right moment.

He was the psychologist supreme. Yet when his methods are not working, whether with a struggling group of footballers or an increasingly skeptical wider world, it is little wonder Mourinho is looking desperate. He has formulated dark theories to explain his side’s decline, but his mind games have merely compounded the sense of crisis at Chelsea.

Television cameras caught Real Madrid Florentino Perez waiting for star player Cristiano Ronaldo as he arrived at the stadium with the rest of the players for Tuesday's crucial champions league clash with Paris St Germain. Florentino Perez could be seen asking the forward about a recent interview he gave German magazine Kicker, in which he hinted that he might not stay at the club.

The president gave him a playful slap as he questioned Ronaldo, who looked less than amused and walked away saying: 'What did I say? I never said that. I said it differently,' he said as he made his way to the dressing room.

Ronaldo looked a shadow of himself in the first half and wore a gloomy look in the opening minutes of the game. After the match he was seen whispering into PSG's coach Laurent Blanc's ears with rumours swirling he could join PSG next year or even return to England.

PSG president Nasser El-Khelaifi was interviewed after the match and refused to rule out a move for the three-time Ballon d'Or winner. He said: 'Ronaldo has a contract with Real and we respect that. Negotiations would be in secret but nothing for now.'
