Good morning! Here are 10 things you need to know this morning:
1. Nigerian Golden Eaglets, midnight of Thursday qualified for the final of the ongoing Under 17 World Cup holding in Chile after defeating a hard fighting Mexican side in a semi-final encounter. The match ended 4:2 in favour of Nigeria. Nigeria will now face Mali in an all African final.
2. Samuel Ortom, Benue State Governor, has insisted that his predecessor, Gabriel Suswam, must be tried for ‘milking’ the state before leaving office. According to the governor, he met an empty treasury, hence the demand by people of the state that Suswam must give account of his stewardship between 2007-2015 must not be waved aside.
3. Despite court order that his international passports be released to him for medical check-up abroad, the operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, on Thursday night laid siege to the Asokoro residence of the immediate past National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki, (retd.). Report claims that the DSS were in Dasuki’s residence in order to prevent him from embarking on his planned medical trip abroad.
4. In a statement issued by Olisa Metuh, PDP Publicity Secretary on Thursday, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said the performance of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government in the past six months was a sign that Buhari’s government has failed the people, hence it was enough for the electorate to turn against his party, the APC as a failed political party.
5. Twenty-six lawyers representing Senate President, Bukola Saraki, who is standing a 13-count trial for false declaration of assets, walked out on the judges of the Code of Conduct Tribunal in Abuja, on Thursday. Following their walk-out, the case was adjourned to Nov. 19, to enable Saraki to talk to them or get new set of lawyers for the case.
6. The Governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, has hailed President Muhammadu Buhari for disclosing the economic status of the country. He advised Bayelsa people to brace up to the harsh financial situation facing the state. He spoke at a meeting with the new Special Advisers at the Government House, Yenagoa, on Thursday.
7. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has formally filed an appeal against the judgment of the Rivers State Governorship Election Tribunal which nullified the election of Governor Nyesom Wike. The Electoral body is challenging entirely the tribunal’s judgment.
8. The DSS has however denied that it laid siege on Sambo Dasuki’s residence in violation of a subsisting court order granting him a relief to travel overseas for medical services. It termed the report of the siege as malicious and unfounded. It however said What brought about the seeming development despite the court order that his international passport be released was his refusal to appear before a Committee undertaking the investigation of an entirely different case.
9. Some unknown armed men have kidnapped a school principal at Ivbiaro, in Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State. Report says the man identified as Mr. Afekhai, was abducted by the gunmen during an operation on Auchi-Warrake road on Wednesday.
10. President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, called on his ministers-designate to join hands with him and restore the lost glory of Nigeria once they are sworn in as substantive ministers. Speaking at a retreat for the 36 ministers-designate organized by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, in Abuja, the President said Nigerians have high expectation for his government, hence they must live up to it.
