Hey everybody, my website is acting up due to a data base error.
Usually, downtime lasts 8 minutes or less but I experienced a downtime of more than ten hours yesterday.
It’s very frustrating and I didn’t realise how attached I am to this blog until yesterday. If I want to quit, I want to do it on my own terms and not because of a technical error so I need to get this fixed ASAP.
Sadly, my hosting company is not helping much. They are asking me to upgrade to VIP hosting for $805, a price higher than my house rent but I want to believe there are cheaper alternatives.
I’m currently looking for a permanent solution and I would not be updating this blog until my frontend and backend works fine.

5 Tips To Improve Your GP This Year

This article discusses ways to Improve Your GP. Even the brightest students can sometimes find themselves academically underperforming, often through no fault of their own. When students find themselves in this situation, it’s often because they’re stuck in a rut and are not sure what to do to improve. If this sounds like you, the first step is to work out the reasons why you may be underperforming, and the next step is to work out how to tackle the problem.

1. Adopt a positive mental attitude

Brightening up your study space can help you stay upbeat. In the face of lower-than-expected grades, it’s only human to react by feeling disappointed with oneself. When you’re frequently receiving lower grades than you’d hoped for, you may start to feel depressed or defeated, and feel like giving up. Though it can be quite difficult, you need to stay positive.

2. Work out where you’re falling short
Do you do well at the theoretical side of Maths, but struggle with applying it to practical situations so you can improve Your GP?
You need to work out which areas need targeting before you can draw up a plan of action, so the next step is to figure out the areas in which you’re underperforming, and why. Are your grades consistently lower than you’d like them to be across all your subjects, or is there one particular area you’re struggling with that’s bringing down your overall performance in a particular subject? Are there external factors that may be negatively affecting your grades, such as a family problem or worrying about a social situation at school? Are you struggling with any particular academic skills that might be dragging you down, such as essay-writing or note-taking? And are you studying in a way that works for you?

3. Talk to your teachers

Your teachers know you best, so it’s worth talking to them when you’re drawing up a plan of action for improving your grades. Ask them where they think you need to improve, and they’ll probably have some advice on how you can go about it. Coupled with the advice in the rest of this article, this should allow you to tailor an action plan to your personal situation.

4. Start organising your life

Clutter of any kind inhibits our ability to operate efficiently, so another way of improving your academic performance is to get organised. Keep your workspace tidy and all your notes and textbooks organised in such a way that you know where everything is. Start thinking more about your time management, too, as this will allow you to prioritise your time effectively, freeing time for problem subjects. Write yourself a daily timetable that incorporates your school schedule, dividing your day into slots of time and fitting in plenty of time for studying. Allocate extra time to subjects or topics you’ve identified as being ones you’re struggling with; it could be that the reason for your underperformance in these subjects is that you’re simply not devoting enough time to them.

5. Improve your memory

Many students struggle to remember all the information they need for exams, and this brings their grades down. With so much to learn across many subjects, remembering facts, figures and arguments is a pretty monumental task, and you need to arm yourself with some effective memory aids to help you. You’ll find more tips on improving your memory in our article on memory techniques for exam preparation.

In 2011ish I got a new position that required me to fly back and forth between Houston and Lagos on a somewhat regular basis. My company insisted that I fly business class and as long as they paid for it (which they did) I had no problem with the proposal.

So that’s how I found myself in this heavenly place called “Business Class.” Long story short business class was nice … if you can afford it knock yourself out!

I met a lot of celebrities, politicians, popular business men and lots and lots of Oil workers aka “expats” in Business class. And I had lots of interesting conversations with them … but my most interesting/confusing conversation came from a special guy. One special 9ja guy …

I had just boarded the plane and was getting ready to settle down in my seat, when I caught a glimpse of my riding partner. He had that look of amazement, as in “wow this place is so nice” I remember that look, because it was the same look I had when I entered Business Class for the first time in my life…

He was just looking at me and the plane and then me again. And eventually proceeded to whisper, but in that kind of interrogative way … he said

“o boy, how did you afford to buy your ticket?”

I was like … “Hold hold up, what type of insult is that, you mean to say that I cannot afford to buy my own ticket!”

But I am passive aggressive … so I kept all my words inside my head and instead decided to reluctantly tell him the truth.

I told him that my company actually paid for the ticket … instantly the look of suspicion jumped out of his eyes. He proceeded to whisper again, like some sort of EFCC investigator…

“Look at all these people in business class (pointing to the Nigerians as he spoke), these are the people stealing Nigeria’s money.”

My face was so confused …

But he ignored my face and kept on…

“They are so corrupt, bleeding Nigeria and flying business class when people are suffering at home.”

At that moment, I looked up to God and said a quick prayer that went something like “lord Jesus please please please give me Wisdom, Patience and Understanding to deal with this bullshit I am hearing!”

I think God heard my prayers. Because I nodded my head to say “uh huh,” before slipping on my earphones and blocking out the bullshit.

Said individual really believed that most Nigerians flying business class are some how automatically corrupt! And that is the same thing for most Nigerians on Land …

Build a house in Dubai … corrupt
Drive a fancy car … it must be corruption.
Build a house in Banana Island … Sugar daddy or corruption
Have an overseas account … corrupt!

Just accuse someone of corruption, offer no proof aside from the fact that he lives or dwells in a fancy place, and the anti-corruption mob will attack!

But here’s some breaking news …

If you earn your money honestly you are free to spend it any which way you want, its your prerogative and nobody’s business. If you want to throw your dollars in a swimming pool and swim in it drown knock yourself out!

And to all the people out there hating or judging … remember, not everybody that flies Business Class is corrupt.

MAKE A MOVE

1. It happened some time ago. I was in an audience listening to a motivational speaker. The speaker got out his wallet & pulled out a 500 Naira note. Holding it up, he asked, “Who wants this 500 naira note?” Lots of hands went up. Including mine. A slow chorus began to build as people began to shout “Me!” “Me!” I began to wonder who the lucky one would be who the speaker would choose. And I also secretly wondered (and I am sure others did too) why he would simply give away 500 naira.

Even as the shouts of “I want it” grew louder, I noticed a young woman running down the aisle. She ran upon to the stage, went up to the speaker, and grabbed the five 500 naira note from his hand. “Well done, young lady,” said the speaker into the microphone.

The speaker simply say “Most of us just sit and wait for good things to happen. That’s of no use. You’ve got to make things happen. Make a move” ‘Simply thinking about doing something is of no use and not good enough’. Our lives are like that. We all see opportunities around us. We all want the good things. But the problem is we don’t take action. We all want the 500 naira notes on offer. But we don’t make the move. We look at it longingly. Get up, and do something about it. Don’t worry about what other people might think.

TAKE ACTION

2. Later, the speaker got another 500 naira note and held it up for all to see, I thought I knew what’s up. But he just asked a simple question. “How much is this worth?” “Five Hundred naira!” the crowd yelled in unison. “Right,” said the speaker. He then took the note and crumpled it into a ball and asked “How much is it worth now?”

“Five Hundred naira!” screamed the audience. He then threw the note on the ground, stamped all over it and picked up the note and asked one more time: “And how much is it worth now?” “Five Hundred naira!” was the response. “I want you to remember this,” said the speaker. “Just because someone crumples it, or stamps on it, the value of the note does not diminish. We should all be like the 500 naira note.. In our lives, there will be times when we feel crushed, stamped over, beaten. But never let your self-worth diminish. Just because someone chooses to crush you — that doesn’t change your worth one bit!

Don’t allow your self-worth to diminish because someone says something nasty or does something dirty to you.” Never let your self-worth diminish.

“Talent can neither be created nor destroyed but can be transformed from one form to another.”

Your teacher or parents cannot destroy your talent by screaming at you. And neither can your Pastor give you talent by praying for you. You just have talent … it’s in you regardless of what happens outside of you.

Your talent can remain within you in a dormant form, doing nothing, we call that “potential.” Your potential to be great and to do great things. But that’s all it is “potential.”

And potential is useless until you decide to work, to hustle, to push, to grind and then you start transforming your dormant talent into active talent. You stop having the potential to be great and instead you become great!
